Friends

Just something on my heart

Friends are an incredible thing to have

It is interesting to me when I think of how many friends fall away as you move forward in life.
Friends that I had in high school are now nowhere to be seen
The people I was once most close to and spent all my time with no longer have a presence in my life. The reasons vary: time, distance, growth, change, in most cases a relationship not built on the relational, or heart, level

I really feel certain friendships can come in seasons.
There are times when friends come into your life and provide what you need at that particular season. It could be encouragement or maybe just somebody to listen. When the time and season of that friendship is up, then a joy is found in knowing you were a blessing to that person! I've found myself having to realize this type of friendship is necessary.

Regardless of where you are in life, there needs to be somebody that can help shoulder the burden of life
Those that are there to literally hear the worst and still show unconditional love in their words and actions are, I believe, very unique and extraordinarily special to have.
Friends that listen, encourage, rejoice with you, or grieve with you.

The fun times are great but ultimately fun ends and the good times dry up...what is the friendship built on?
The long lasting test of a friend is the perseverance though your struggles and the foundation of trust.

What does the Bible say about friends?
The word "friend" is found about ninety times in the Bible so obviously God is not silent on friendships

Proverbs 27:5-6:

An open rebuke

i
s better than hidden love!

Wounds from a sincere friend
are better than many kisses from an enemy.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10:
Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.

If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

Proverbs 17:17:

A friend is always loyal,

and a brother is born to help in time of need.

Those verses exemplify a friend that is precious and valuable. Somebody to keep accountability and hold loyalty sacred.
To be honest, I've been very blessed with incredible brothers. They are my best friends. It is so awesome to have them because they live out those verses up there in an incredible way. It's tough to replicate the unique bond that siblings have

A
post or two ago, I said..."
surround yourself with those who only speak life and encouragement"
I believe that statement holds a lot of truth...keep friends close that build you up, encourage you, believe in you and will fight for you, as well as care about you enough to desire to see you enter into new levels of your life.

Those friends are rare but when found, they are treasure.
