Renaissance Man?

If you thought this blog was just random thoughts and pointless stories then you would be sadly mistaken.
Here is an original Haiku I wrote about random things in my room...where I am indeed at right now

There are four walls here
My closet does not have doors
Light comes from my lamp

Thanks

I'm a real "teacher"

So I just got done teaching a lesson in a real high school class...like a real high school teacher

Kind of

Let me first say this: teaching is not all that simple and quite honestly not too fun (at least this experience wasn't)

I was only supposed to review some Vietnam War stuff, give them a worksheet, go over said worksheet and boom, done.....pretty cut and dry
I am the type of person who doesn't necessarily mind being in front of people and am really pretty comfortable with those type of situations.....
This wasn't one of those situations

Let me quickly run down the key points in a 5 point presentation....
1. I felt I knew what I was talking about but ultimately the nerves got me into speed mode and when I get into speed mode, watch out...the words FLY...and the speed causes my mouth to get really dry (#4)
2. It was tough going into a class and just taking it over. The kids had seen me before but just me sitting there taking notes while watching another teacher do the teaching. The class was pretty cool but again, it was uncomfortable
3. There was a camera set up in the back of the room and that was the kicker for the students. Let's make this awkward. ( I helped a lot)
4. My mouth got really dry and my lips attempted to cement together while my tongue decided to not work...made for some interesting words
5. This was all for a grade....a big grade

Bonus #6. It was really hot in the classroom and the sweat started pouring.......never good....ever

Honestly, I actually didn't do that bad but that wouldn't have made a good blog. It was interesting to say the least. There were a few of the students that answered all my questions and I thank them because the last thing I needed was dead air time.
Overall, I'm pretty pumped it's over
That's all

Update on stuff that I'm sure everybody wants to know about

I'm sitting here attempting to build up momentum so I can get back to working on a paper due next week
It is a really nice day out...there was some loud music playing on campus and I couldn't tell why
I saw some kick ball action going on so I can only assume these kick ballers enjoy music during their kick ball festivities.
I'm thinking I'm just going to ramble about what's been going on so let's make this an update shall we...

So the past few weeks have been insane...double insane
I have been knocking out school work at a pretty rapid pace but it seems like the more I get done, the more comes at me. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel though....just barely
I have a class on Thursday nights and last night I taught my last lesson for the class. I gave a lesson on the 1960's and the Counterculture Movement. It went pretty good..having it filmed always throws me off though.
Something about knowing I am on tape AND also knowing I have to watch the tape always is interesting.
That class has made me grow tremendously in terms of my presence in front of people and the way I convey my thoughts
I am going to teach in a high school class on Monday for a grade. That shouldn't been too bad except that has to be taped as well.
After I get done with that, I will be almost done with everything for the semester. Other than another paper and 3 presentations......then finals
This 19 hour semseter has been quite the beat down on me though and if I was playing football, then there would be a good chance it wouldn't be able to do it.

Next fall, I am only taking 12 hours because I will be coaching...that's going to be quite the difference in work loads.
Either way, this semester has flown by, actually this year has flown by.
It's hard to believe that I will be a senior in college next year. It seriously seems like yesterday that I was a week away from leaving home and heading to Central Missouri for football. I can remember my mom saying how fast it's going to go and it seriously did.
This summer will be a good one though. I honestly think this might be the longest summer I've ever had. Lindenwood doesn't go back to school until like the very last week of August. I want to say we're rocking like 14 weeks off this summer.
I will be working a lot but it will be nice to be able to play my guitar more. (I'm pretty simple like that)
I am also looking forward to hanging with the bros a lot more this summer. This has really been a season of separation for the 4 of us. Justin and Jamison have really been busy this past year with the Midwest Movement, Jared is home but is busy with school and Youth at church and I've been at school for a lot of it. I'm hoping this summer finds us more time to spend together.
My cousin Brittany and her husband Kris are also going to be in town for the summer and I am so pumped for that. no joke, if you ever get to meet them then you will be better off for it. They are awesome! I'm hoping to spend a lot of time with them if it works out. Without a doubt they will be very busy too.

Anyway, I'm thinking the blog will be kept going through the summer. It might tail off a little because obviously the summer isn't that exciting (well, even less exciting than my normal non-exciting life right now)
but I really, really appreciate everybody that reads it. It means a lot to me that you guys find my thoughts interesting......or at least something to read when you are bored. Either way, it's very cool!
Alright, that's it....I need to finish up a paper on Francis Drake (exciting)

not exciting

Jacob interviewed by Jacob

So I was thinking, I've been throwing down blog posts for a few weeks now but haven't really had too much about myself
I found a website with random surveys and copied a bunch of them on here
So here are some very random facts you probably don't want to know

or do you?

probably not....

I actually don't have closet doors..kinda weird but it works because I never have to open my closet because my closet is always open
Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotel?
Nope...I do like the hotels that have soda in the mini fridge thing..it's always a mad scramble to get those sodas when we go on vacation...great times...that answer had nothing to do with the question
Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out?
yes! awesome question...out if anybody is wondering...if they are in then you can't move around...I think the Amish keep their sheets tucked in (I like the Amish)
Have you ever stolen a street sign before?
No..I have climbed a street light though and for years I thought I was going to get arrested because of it.........and that has nothing to do with this question either

One time I was eating a pickle and got to the end and felt the stomach churning..I kept chowing though and ended up blowing some major chunks all over...naturally, pickles are no longer cool with me
Do you always smile for pictures?
Unless it's like a mug shot or something (never taken one..don't worry) then yea, I'd say I smile
What is your biggest pet peeve?
Honestly not many things bug me BUT if I had to chose I might have to go with people who really have a self-inflated idea of themselves and act like it...why not be humble? that's an awesome quality to have
Do you ever count your steps when you walk?
no but I do count stairs when I go up or down them...really don't know why

I don't dance period!! It's better that way...trust me

Where would you bury hidden treasure if you had some?
The most obvious place..like my front yard...nobody would look there
What movies could you watch over and over and still love?

Were you ever a boy/girl scout?
nope...never had an interest in it...I can't tie a not very well though so I guess the joke's on me
When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper?
Actually this summer..one of my friends was working at a camp and I guess they had no form of technology so I wrote her a letter...it was a pretty good letter...it had a maze
Can you change the oil on a car?
I was actually just talking about this with my dad this morning...I don't do it much but I'm sure I could..I am not much of a car guy
Ever gotten a speeding ticket?
Only one..rolled through a stop sign...the cop gave me one more chance and I rolled through the next one too......he got me....good guy though

Check it out..Old Man Marley

"I'll give you ten seconds to get your ugly, yella, no good keister off my property before I pump your guts full of lead."
Classic line from a classic movie
I think it might be safe to say that I've seen Home Alone more times than any other movie ever made.
I used to be able to quote it line for line (that's sad and embarrassing)
For that very reason it deserves a blog post. (and I deserve some sort of commemorative plaque)
My grandparents had the original Home Alone on VHS (remember those) and regardless of the time of year, it was a guarantee that whenever we would be over at their house we would watch it. (more than once on many occasion)
It went something like this.....
*March-HOME ALONE!!!!!
*Middle of August-HOME ALONE!!!!
*January 17th-HOME ALONE!!!!
and because of this I'm sure it's pretty much safe to say that my grandparents have also seen Home Alone more times than any other movie (or the old school Willy Wonka movie...I never liked that boat ride scene though..seriously, why put that in there??)

Anyway, Home Alone is an all-around, all-american classic from the very beginning of the movie when everybody is going nuts trying to get packed for the trip to France to the very end when Buzz realizes Kevin destroyed his room.

Random Fact: Jamison got a Kevin Mcallister pull-string action figure doll for Christmas one year...Pull the string and Home Alone quotes comes out of Kevin's head. It was awesome

That movie will be a classic forever and think about it, what other Christmas movie could come out with a sequel of equal exceptionality? (I'm pretty sure that's a word)
The whole premise of the movie was outrageous and equally outrageous was how Kevin took advantage of it (I wish my life had writers)
From sledding down the stairs (I tried that down the stairs of our deck one time and almost broke my legs) to going shopping for food by himself (I can't even do that right now) to rigging his house full of traps!!! C'MON!!!

It is a very unfortunate fact that this festive series of movies received a swift kick to the throat when even more movies were added unnecessarily.....I rate them below

Home Alone..awesome
Home Alone 2...double awesome
Home Alone 3...absolutely terrible
Home Alone 4...worst movie in cinematic history

I will leave you now with a montage (I've never used that word) of all the slapstick hilarity Marv and Harry provide

"Keep the change ya filthy animal"

Friends

Just something on my heart

Friends are an incredible thing to have

It is interesting to me when I think of how many friends fall away as you move forward in life.
Friends that I had in high school are now nowhere to be seen
The people I was once most close to and spent all my time with no longer have a presence in my life. The reasons vary: time, distance, growth, change, in most cases a relationship not built on the relational, or heart, level

I really feel certain friendships can come in seasons.
There are times when friends come into your life and provide what you need at that particular season. It could be encouragement or maybe just somebody to listen. When the time and season of that friendship is up, then a joy is found in knowing you were a blessing to that person! I've found myself having to realize this type of friendship is necessary.

Regardless of where you are in life, there needs to be somebody that can help shoulder the burden of life
Those that are there to literally hear the worst and still show unconditional love in their words and actions are, I believe, very unique and extraordinarily special to have.
Friends that listen, encourage, rejoice with you, or grieve with you.

The fun times are great but ultimately fun ends and the good times dry up...what is the friendship built on?
The long lasting test of a friend is the perseverance though your struggles and the foundation of trust.

What does the Bible say about friends?
The word "friend" is found about ninety times in the Bible so obviously God is not silent on friendships

Proverbs 27:5-6:

An open rebuke

i
s better than hidden love!

Wounds from a sincere friend
are better than many kisses from an enemy.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10:
Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.

If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

Proverbs 17:17:

A friend is always loyal,

and a brother is born to help in time of need.

Those verses exemplify a friend that is precious and valuable. Somebody to keep accountability and hold loyalty sacred.
To be honest, I've been very blessed with incredible brothers. They are my best friends. It is so awesome to have them because they live out those verses up there in an incredible way. It's tough to replicate the unique bond that siblings have

A
post or two ago, I said..."
surround yourself with those who only speak life and encouragement"
I believe that statement holds a lot of truth...keep friends close that build you up, encourage you, believe in you and will fight for you, as well as care about you enough to desire to see you enter into new levels of your life.

Those friends are rare but when found, they are treasure.

MOCK.....YEA.....ING....YEA...

Greatness......

Twitter-ific?

I just signed up for Twitter...the buzz about it sparked some curiosity...
Here is my unofficial review on Twitter....
It's like Facebook...minus everything but status updates
There is a guy named Steve Glose that I found....I'm not sure who he is (you are not in my family STEVE)
Honestly, my life is not that interesting that people would want to know what I am doing all the time...here is a possible sample of what the other Twitter folks could see though......
"Jacob is writing a Broadway musical"
"Jacob just clipped his toenails"
"Jacob enjoys clam chowder"
"Jacob is making a paper mache replica of the Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile"
"Jacob just folded some socks" (I guess I fold my socks)
"Jacob is going to bed at 9:30" (I'm cool)
"Jacob just helped deliver a litter of puppies" (what am I talking about?)
"Jacob is not making egg salad"
"Jacob just clogged the toilet" (uncalled for...sorry)
"Jacob is watching Toy Story"
"Jacob just made a scarf from his own eyebrow hair"
OK!! that's it...
so yea, Twitter.............neat

Maybe I am Afraid of the Dark

I'm sure you all remember the old school Saturday night Nickelodeon....or SNICK (clever)
I can admit that I was pretty much terrified by the show Are You Afraid of the Dark?
That show was ridiculous and I could never watch it without my brothers around (embarrassing)
The intro still kinda creeps me out...(really embarrassing)

Secretly, I wondered what they always threw on the fire in the beginning of the show to make it flare up like that...
It would always be like....
"Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story...(ominous voice) "The Tale of the new neighbors across the street who exhibit characteristics similar to vampires"......(huh?)
and then they would throw some sort of rice/trail mix/bird seed/gerbil food combo on the fire and it would explode into a ridiculous ball of flames (HAD to be a fire hazard)
I'd say that show was ahead of its time...especially if it still scares me ( I need to stop)

all in all, that was a classic show and a fond memory of the younger years

In Between Dreams

OK, so I don't know who filmed these videos but on YouTube, I found a performance of Jack Johnson playing at Tower Records in LA a few years back. He was promoting his new album In Between Dreams (great music)
The videos are delightful if you are a fan of Jack Johnson
He plays a Cole Clark too
Enjoy...

PONG!!!!!

I'm talking about Pong of the Ping variety....yes, the timeless game known as Ping Pong
It rolls right off the tongue...I might name my first child Ping Pong (probably not)
I would rate my skills at Ping Pong as moderately terrible to ultra-awesome (what?)
I shall explain...(I never use the word shall)
If I am playing a cat or an old woman with an eye patch and a hook for a hand then I might be what you'd consider ultra-awesome
Now, if I was playing this guy, this guy, this guy, or even this guy then I would look like a terrible excuse for a Ping Pong player.

Really the question everybody wants to know first and foremost is...
How did Ping Pong start you ask? (nobody is asking)
Well....
*UPDATE*
I just looked up the history of Ping Pong (I'm cool) and thought it was boring so I'm not going to type it out...I think it started in England and they used books for paddles...I got that fact from Wikipedia so it's probably not true

Anyway, Ping Pong could be considered a hot topic around the Glose home...there have been many a battle in the basement at 104 Millspring Lane
One time, I went on a hot streak and racked up a solid 40 wins in a row ( I was untouchable)
and then my career went into an insane tail spin...I've never been able to regain my magic due to some "rule" changes...apparently my serve was "cheating"(they were scared of my skill)....career over
It is very interesting to me how a simple game consisting of paddles and a ball could cause brothers to turn on each other so swiftly (pretty sad actually)

I would have to say I am quite the fan of watching Ping Pong and really wonder why it's not on TV more...I know America is asking for it
Take a gander por favor

You'll notice the skill these gentlemen display, as well as the ridiculously awesome announcer

I am not that good...will I ever be that good? probably not...does that bother me? maybe...should it? no
Ping Pong is a pretty spicy game though and I CHALLENGE ANYBODY, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE!!!!!
(no I don't)

School?

I just took a test...it was hard......unnecessarily hard

College is a funny thing
There is so much work to do..especially with 19 hours (I'm crazy)
It teaches you be very organized......or to work well under pressure
I think through two colleges, I've finally figured out how to be a good student...and that it's beneficial to read the text books (most of the time)
I can admit my study habits in high school were pretty inconsistent (or nonexistant..one of the two)...and unfortunately that followed me into my first year or two of school..
playing a sport in college didn't help but that really is just a lame excuse

I'd say I'm finally at a point where I am hitting on all cylinders academic-wise and that is definitely a nice place to be.....
except when you burn out and forget to study for a test....

only 4 weeks left of my junior year though

Monday Night thought at 8:45

I'm working on a paper about Rwanda..basically the movie Hotel Rwanda in paper form...and I needed a break.
It's not the most uplifting topic to write about...

I was at one of my buddies house this past weekend and his sister is getting married in about 2 months and we were talking to her about her marriage...for some reason I've been pondering the issue for a couple days
I have never been married obviously (don't even have a girlfriend...burn...but not really)
I would assume being married has gotta be outrageously awesome!
Think about it...you are married to your best friend, the one person you love the most in your life and you are together for the rest of your life! (sounds pretty awesome to me)
So if you couldn't tell, I'm pretty juiced about getting married (whenever that is going to be)

First off though I would like to say, my parents are outstanding....they put the Lord first in their marriage and they are an awesome example of commitment and truly living out love...because I fully believe love is a decision every single day and definitely not a feeling
If you are like me (or any normal human) then you change emotions and feelings many times during the day...
So I just wanted to brag on my parents...they rock

Anyway, I was thinking about marriage and finding a wife that has an undivided heart for the Lord
I'm thinking of a Proverbs 31 woman...
Proverbs 31:10
A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman--who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls

I believe a wife should be cherished above all things because a Godly woman is worth it!!
I think The Message Bible sums that up for me pretty well (Thanks Message Bible!)
Ephesians 5:25 -28
Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ's love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their wives. They're really doing themselves a favor—since they're already "one" in marriage
.
In
Mark 10, it talks about a man and woman and the plan of unity that God intended...
Mark 10:6-9:6
...God made them male and female from the beginning of creation. This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.

I believe the blessing that's on a marriage covenant when the Lord has a hand on it is powerful

Anyway, those are just a small sampling of the thoughts that have kind of been swimming around in the ol' noggin...
I am pretty sure I can say for a fact that I am not ready to get married but I am putting faith in my Heavenly Father and the woman He is preparing for me...

hopefully this doesn't make me sound desperate (this blog could backfire)

Guitars of the Cole Clark variety

I have a test in about an hour but I'm having a really hard time getting focused this morning so I'm going to put some pictures up. (great use of time huh?)
Cole Clark guitars pretty much sum up the ultimate guitar for me.
I like the guitar I have now but man, having a Cole Clark would be righteous
They sound awesome and they are made in Australia...perfect combo (in a weird way)
Cole Clark

IMPORTANT

not that important
but at the bottom of the page I added some music to the El profilidente (not real spanish)
Hope the songs are winners...they are awesome worship songs
On a side note, it's looking likely that I'm going to buy the Nissan truck
I went and drove it today and looked it over with my dad (thankful for my dad)
He liked it, I liked it and the price can't be beat...crazy how everything fell into place...
God is good
I'm going to work soon
Have a great weekend
Thanks for reading

Blog Special

So, the truck that I could possibly have the chance to buy was I guess, officially offered today.
My dad called me this afternoon and said that the price would be 3,800. This is so awesome because I was expecting at least 5,000 starting out, maybe more.
This gentleman is not even selling the truck officially so there isn't even a chance that somebody could swoop in and snag it from me.
I'm pretty pumped about it and thought I'd do a special commemorative blog about it.
I really was believing I had favor with this man and he would make a great deal for me.
This truck is a big time blessing!
So, that's about it...I'm about to head to my 4:30 class and then gettin on home for the weekend.
Justin and Jamison come back tomorrow
I'm pumped
That's all

Things o' Jacob part 2

OK, so this is the second installment of the critically acclaimed (my mom thought the first one was funny) series "Things o' Jacob"...I've found it really challenging to come up with a new thing to talk about (I guess I'm not that interesting) so this could possibly be the last installment (don't be sad)
Maybe I'll just hit on a few things that I take interest in and be done with the pressure...I'm ranting about this and I don't know why...
OK, here goes...

I am a fan of dogs. How can you not love an animal that loves you no matter what. It's love in its purest form and that to me is exceptional. If people loved each other like dogs love us, then this world would be amazingly different. I'm pretty sure there is nobody that would dispute that fact and if they do I will fight them (no I won't)

I am a fan of stick-shift trucks..in particular Nissan trucks. All through high school I drove a 1990 Nissan pickup truck (the white demon). That truck was insane. I could literally drive about 4 months without filling up the gas tank and when I did have to fill up, it only would cost me like 3 bucks for a full tank. And on top of that, it was a stick-shift which made it fun to drive (except in neighborhoods or traffic jams). There is a business my dad delivers packages to and the owner might possibly sell me his 1997 Nissan pickup..same truck...a little more modern...might possibly have air conditioning and power windows..and steering for the matter...that would be nice...

I am definitely a fan of girls who have values and respect for themselves. It is refreshing and encouraging to me to see a young woman with integrity and respect for herself...a woman that loves and follows the Lord and has an undivided desire and heart for the things of God. It would be pretty safe to say that is the number one quality I am looking for.

I am a fan of family. Yes, if you read my first post you can tell my family is down right awesome but who else can you be open, transparent, and real with at anytime? There needs to be people in your life that you can just open your heart to and not fear rejection or mockery. And in some cases, they can give you a swift kick in the butt when you need to get your rear in gear.....I am thankful for that (even though it's humbling)

I am a fan of history. I am indeed a history major but I do not necessarily obsess over knowing everything about everything. Although I enjoy history and could possibly teach it well if that is really what I'm supposed to do with my life, knowing random dates and facts to impress people doesn't make anybody cool.

I am a fan of writing. Obviously, I'm writing right now..I never really found writing to be fun because 99% of the writing I do is for school. Papers, article reviews, chapter summaries, lesson plans are basically the only things I do and really if you think about it, that stuff is boring. I actually like to write about random stuff. Hopefully you guys like reading it.

I am a fan of the guitar. Not necessarily just because I play but just in general. The acoustic guitar is a swell instrument and quite delightful to listen to.

I am a fan of reading. Let me start this by saying I WAS a fan of reading, took a couple years off from reading stuff besides ESPN the Magazine and Sports Illustrated and now I'm back and it's better than ever! I like reading mostly non-fiction stuff though. Either way, reading rocks (that sounds like a poster that could be in an elementary school classroom)

I am a fan of movies in the movie theater. This is a kinda obvious thing..movies in a theater but watching movies on a regular TV is just not the same. Something about actually going to the theater and experiencing the ambiance of it all. The stadium seats...the monster screen...the ridiculous prices...the sticky floors...Plus you get to see the previews which I am also a huge fan of.

I guess its fitting to mention (since I just did like a sentence ago) that I am a fan of movie
trailers. Click on the word "trailers" (or movie if you don't want to be told what to do) and check out a website Apple has. Movie trailers are just cool. Definitely a more random interest of mine.

I am a fan of people. I love people. I love to talk to them and just listen. This is not necessarily just strangers with interesting stories but also people in my life. I definitely take great joy in being a person somebody can talk to and not feel like they have to put walls up. I may not have some crazy insightful answer (sometimes I do) but I want to leave people better than when I found them and that's my goal. I really believe that people appreciate somebody who is intently listening and taking great interest in their lives.
Be an encourager in all you do!

OK, so there are just a few things that I am a fan of..there are probably quite a few more but this could get really long so I'll call it quits. Hope you guys enjoyed this entry!!!

Challenges

It's interesting to look back at things that you have "accomplished" and wondered why???
For some strange reason I was thinking about high school and the ridiculous feats of consumption we'd attempt...they were pretty dumb and painful..as you'll see
I think the most famous of our "challenges" was the Gallon Challenge. For those of you who do not know what the GC is let me enlighten you...
Basically, the gallon challenge pits you against a whole gallon of milk in 60 minutes or it could be one hour, not sure.....(JOKE) Anyway, this challenge is quite a doozy and few have accomplished this. I have seen one upstanding citizen drop a whole gallon of WHOLE milk in under 10 minutes and be completely unfazed by it....now that is something to see.
Let me give you a little insight to my experience with the gallon challenge to prove how deadly it is.
First off though, I am lactose intolerant...strange? yes...embarrassing? possibly...so the relationship I have with milk is pretty rocky to begin with. We don't get along and probably never will...To spare you the details, anytime I drink a lot of milk, my stomach makes sounds similar to that of a rooster that got its head caught in a vacuum (I've never actually heard that but it seems fitting) it's pretty bad...what's worse is what comes after those noises (gross) yes, very gross....OK so that's the side story...
So, I decided to try the gallon challenge a few times. The first time I did it, I got about 3/4 the way through the gallon and was feeling ungood (not a word)...then I blew chunks everywhere....then about 7 hours later give or take, I had a date with the toilet...much like this...
The second time I tried it ( yes, I actually tried it again) I got like 4 drinks in and just stopped. my stomach was killing me. I felt like I had a bag of flour in my stomach ( whatever that means) and then the last time (still yes, tried again) it was the last night of my freshman year of college and I dropped some major barfage into the toilet that night as well.....so all in all, I'd say just don't even try it...
Now there have been a few other challenges that have a special place of honor....
I guess Sonic has a deal on random nights that you can get 5 burgers for 5 bucks..so one night we undertook the Sonic Challenge. This one was pretty interesting because 5 burgers in under an hour can be quite filling as you may imagine. Really when I think about it, this might have been one of the best challenges because I am a fan of Sonic..........and their commercials....

The absolute worst challenge ever known to man is the Salt Challenge.
I can thank Mr. Justin Cornelius Coaxum for this dandy of a challenge. He claims that it is impossible to swallow about a soda cap full of salt and keep it down for 10 minutes. So naturally I wanted to prove this gentleman wrong......wrong choice.....
I actually get the salt down (which is a challenge in itself) and I'm feeling fine...but within mere minutes my stomach is raging war with itself AND LOSING!
Imagine if you will an insane naval battle or some sort between battleships in the ocean except the ships are all the food I had just had to eat, stomach acid, and table salt and the sea is the inside of my stomach. (dumb analogy)
The salt forced it's way back out of my throat and I unleashed an all-out assault of vomit on the grass (I think I killed the grass...I felt bad) It wasn't good
The last and final challenge that made me a legend at Shop 'N Save was the Ice Cream Sandwich Challenge.
One day, way back when I was a courtesy clerk (official title for a cart pusher...made us feel important) I claimed (bad idea) I could eat a whole box of ice cream sandwiches in a standard Shop 'N Save break (15 minutes...definite weak sauce) I started eating and before I knew it a crowd had gathered to cheer me on to victory (actually it was like 4 people and 2 of them were there because they were on break...ouch)
I got about 9 sandwiches down out of the box of 12 and slammed into the wall...my fingers were freezing...my nose was running..my stomach was raging....labored breathing...I was struggling mightily....it was not a pretty scene my friends.
Somehow I managed to pull through and triumphantly chowed down almost 2,000 calories in 15 minutes (BOOYAH!!!!) and I was proud of myself for some reason....I had dominated those frozen treats with the ferocity no man has ever seen...........until like 2 years later when my brother Jamison ate 13........burn
Wow and on a side note...I'm sitting here in the computer lab and I think the dude sitting down the row just farted and crop dusted everybody as he walked out (I'm slightly impressed he'd do that in public).....I felt that it was necessary to put in here..........................................maybe I shouldn't have

SEGA!!

So I'm sitting here in the computer lab doing work and I figured I'd take a break from typing to do uh, more typing...but fun typing..that I won't be graded on...
Do you ever sit in class and remember stuff from waaaay back and find it hard to not laugh. I mean stuff that is really just tucked away in the farthest recesses of your mind and suddenly comes up...
I was thinking today about elementary school. Not elementary school stories like the time when I kept spilling chocolate milk on the side of my jorts (jean shorts) and it looked like I pooped in my pants (it's tough when that happens consecutively in one week). Or how in 3rd grade, I had a lot to drink, but for some ridiculous reason I would only use the stalls in the bathroom...just my luck, all the stalls were taken and let's just say wearing sweat pants that day did not serve me well. (my mom had to throw that pair underwear way if that tells you anything.......definitely too much info) Or how I used to talk to the bus driver on the way home from school (that's embarrassing and yet I just told you). I'm talking about the one thing all the Glose boys lived for....(loud trumpets) SEGA!!!!! (people cheering)...it's hard to type sound effects....
You have got to remember Sega...it was a 1990's institution.....up-down-left-right-A-C-Start(cheat code to the first Sonic) that game console used to be the ultimate source of entertainment for me and my bros.

I remember playing Sega all the time, after school, on break, on weekends. Anytime. That thing had some classic games...Sonic the Hedgehog..I never did beat Sonic 2 (that one hurt)..Charles Barkley Shut Up and Jam...Ecco the Dolphin (hard game)...The Jungle Book...Jurassic Park...Hook (awesome movie by the way)...NBA Jam..NHL '94...X-Men...the list goes on and on.. This was just an great thing...forget the fancy pants game consoles now.GIVE ME SEGA!!!! OR GIVE ME NOTHING!!!!

What can bring about actual tears of joy like winning a Stanley Cup in NHL '94 (happened) or bring so much pain like Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (how can you seriously make the last level that hard?!) Or make a game about the 7-Up dot...it seriously can't be compared to anything
If everybody had the chance to play Sega at least once then the crime rate in America would be dramatically lower...proven fact

Human Lobster

So I was thinking randomly about a story that happened to my brothers a while back and then remembered something crazy that happened that has nothing to do with that story but is quite a fine story in itself. That makes no sense but I'm going to tell that second story because it is a story that needs to be told. (what am I talking about??)
A little while back, we took a vacation to the fine state of Florida. The normal trend that seemed to be taking place regarding our Florida excursions was this: go to a resort, swim, go to an amusement park, swim some more, go home. I'd say pretty normal.
My parents decided they wanted to stay on the beach so we got a place by the beach one year. The next year came and again, we were by the beach. So that's pretty much where this story takes place.
It was the summer before I was about to leave for college. We get down to Florida and I was like, "Yeah, I'm getting tan." Friends, that should never be a goal as you'll see.
Anyway, I think to myself, "what would be the fastest way to get bronze?" again, no.
Normally my skin burns and then in a day or so, tans so I figured I could get pretty crispy one day and boom, the next day I'd be tan.
In retrospect, that was pretty unwise. Also unwise is my next decision...
I'm about to head out with my brothers to begin my quest. Again, in my tan-oriented state of mind I assumed that using the LEAST amount of sun screen would also be beneficial. I think it was safe to say I was not thinking with any ounce of wisdom...
True words, I literally used a dime-sized amount of sun screen..................FOR MY ENTIRE BODY.....WHAT???
That was my first mistake......wouldn't be my last
So we get out there and really just completely disregarding my brother's advice to turn sides every 20 minutes, (I guess he was giving me tan advice) I proceed to FALL ASLEEP.........FOR 3 HOURS!!!!!
I wake up, bright, bright red, and go inside. I probably should have taken notice to the fact that water hitting my skin was excruciating but i figured it would be all good the next day. Well, it turns out things were definitely not all good the next day. I had a summer football workout program from Central Missouri so I struggled to put on a shirt and went down to the weight room where we were staying. I think I realized things were not good after about 3 seconds.
I was burned so bad that I had to stay inside the whole vacation. I laid on my back in nothing but boxer shorts everyday for a week. My eye lids were even torched so it hurt just to have my eyes open.
If you've ever seen the old school Willy Wonka movie and can remember the grandparents who were in bed for like 20 years. That was me.
It was kinda terrible....actually really terrible. And my dad thought it was cool to video tape my agony. It's pretty fun watching that...
After a while my skin started to blister and of course, after that my skin started to peel and that was just not right. It was a snow storm every time I took my shirt off. I think I had tan lines for like a year.
So yea, that's the story...not good times, don't want to do it again, don't fall asleep on the beach.

UPDATE ABOUT NOTHING

So it's back to action on the academic front. Spring break was last week and I did a whole lot.........................of nothing (oh snap!) that was dumb.....so it has been a pretty seamless transition back into school but that's not saying much since I only had one class today.

It suddenly got really cold too and one point was snowing like nobodies business outside. Normally the snow is quite delightful but I felt pretty cheesed about it ( I don't like using that term but that is really the only way to describe my feelings) really because it is April and completely unnecessary.
I guess this is going to be kind of an update dealio because nothing really is going on except the vast amount of work I still have to do before summer hits. Although, I'm not sure anybody really keeps up with my life enough to be updated on my life.
Speaking of summer, I am planning on making a lot of money this summer so naturally I will have to do something unpleasant. I think I am going to work for a tree service and haul around logs all day. Should be fun.
Like I said, I have a crazy amount of things to get done before the summer. I probably should have done some more stuff over break but I had already worked like a mad man for the better part of the semester so I figured a break would be nice. I am never taking 19 hours again...EVER.
I'd say that almost 2 weeks into this blogging thing, it's still pretty ok. My life is really not that interesting so a lot of this stuff I write is random happenings that go on. Then again, I guess it all depends on who you ask. If I were to ask a guy that works at a place that makes Triscuits (which I enjoy) then my life may be quite the adventure ride. (nothing against Triscuit makers) However, if you asked a circus clown or a shoe cobbler (dream job) then my life would look like a snoozer. Either way, I like to write about random stuff so yea, I don't know where I am going with this so I should probably stop.

New Strings

So I got new guitar strings for my guitar. New guitar strings are awesome. Anybody that plays guitar knows this fact.
For whatever reason I think I like the idea of having new guitar strings more than putting then on my guitar. If that makes any sense at all.
I go to this place called Mid Rivers Music to get strings. They have some pretty dandy deals on strings. When I was out at Central Missouri, the music store in Warrensburg had a crazy monopoly on guitar strings and would completely inflate their prices. Where was the Sherman Antitrust Act???..........huh?
Anyway, the good gentlemen down at Mid Rivers Music recommended Earthwood strings...Why Earthwood?
Ernie Ball 2004 Earthwood Acoustic Guitar strings are crafted from 80% copper, 20% zinc wire wrapped around hex shaped tin plated steel core wire. The most popular acoustic provides a crisp, ringing sound with pleasing overtones. All Ernie Ball strings are precision manufactured to the highest standards and most exacting specs to assure consistency, optimum performance, and long life.
I found that description online somewhere...anyway, that's about it...
